چکیده

209 ABSTRACT: In the present study, different activated carbons were prepared from carbonized African beech wood sawdust by potassium hydroxide activation. The activated carbons were characterized by brunauer–emmett–teller, scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analyzer. The phenol adsorption capacity of the prepared carbons was evaluated. The different factors affecting phenol’s removal were studied including: contact time, solution pH and initial phenol concentration. The optimum phenol removal was obtained after a contact time of 300 min. and at an initial phenol solution pH 7. The maximum removal percentages were determined at 5 mg/L initial phenol concentration as 79, 93, 94 and 98% for AC0, AC1, AC2 and AC3; respectively. The adsorption of phenol on African beech sawdust activated carbons was found to follow the Lagergren first order kinetics and the intraparticle diffusion mechanism gave a good fit to the experimental data. The isothermal models applied fitted the experimental data in the order: Langmuir> Dubinin–Radushkevich> Freundlich and Temkin.

Pb ADSORPTION FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS ON ACTIVATED CARBONS OBTAINED FROM LIGNOCELLULOSIC RESIDUES

Activated carbons obtained from cane sugar bagasse (ACB), African palm pit (ACP) and sawdust (ACS) were prepared through an impregnated with HNO3 and thermal treatment in an atmosphere in N2/steam water at 1173 K. Adsorption isotherms of N2 at 77 K and of CO2 at 273 K were determined for the activated carbons for which surface area and pore volume values were from 868 to 1100 mg and from 0.27 t...

Sustainable porous carbons with a superior performance for CO2 capture

Sustainable porous carbons have been prepared by chemical activation of hydrothermally carbonized polysaccharides (starch and cellulose) and biomass (sawdust). These materials were investigated as sorbents for CO2 capture. The activation process was carried out under severe (KOH/precursor=4) or mild (KOH/precursor=2) activation conditions at different temperatures in the 600-800oC range. Textur...

Adsorption of Lead from Aqueous Solution by Modified Beech Sawdust

Sawdust is now being investigated as an adsorbent to remove contaminants from aqueous solution. Heavy metals can be decreased very effectively with the organic material. In this research, adsorption of Pb (II) onto modified beech sawdust in a batch system was investigated. Sawdust was collected from timber mill of Qom, Iran, and modified with H2SO4 and NaOH. Then, the effe...

Sorption Performance towards No2 of Nitrogen-enriched Adsorbents Obtained from Sawdust Pine

Introduction Modification of the precursors or ready activated carbons permits getting materials of improved adsorption and catalytic properties or of specific acid-base or hydrophobic-hydrophilic character. Particularly promising are the activated carbons enriched in nitrogen because of wide possibilities of use of such materials. In particular, they can find applications related to protection...
